Shetlands are ideal for young children from 2yrs and upwards.

They have a good calm temperament and are the best option for first ponies.

You'll need a large garden or small paddock for the pony. The pony will be able to stay out during the winter with a suitable rug, but a stable, or garden shed would be preferable.

Shetland's need limited grazing due to their small size, especially during spring and early summer when the grass is most rich.

Mollases-free chaff is suitable for Shetlands.
